The Naskov Family
In 2012, Zoran and Jennifer Naskov heard a simple radio advertisement that sparked a desire to do more in caring for vulnerable children. They became licensed therapeutic foster parents in the United States, and over the years, welcomed approximately a dozen children into their home between 2009 and 2015. In 2013, the family of four grew by two when they were able to adopt Josif and, later on, Malachi out of foster care in North Carolina.
The Naskovs were not satisfied with just providing a loving home for their own children; they wanted to do more. After considering their options, they chose North Macedonia, as it is Zoran's homeland and has many opportunities to help in the area of orphan care - a topic very close to their hearts.
In the Fall of 2014, Jennifer went on a fact-finding trip to North Macedonia to determine the need and how they could become involved. Less than a year later, the family of six (plus their Australian Cattle dog) boarded a plane and moved to North Macedonia to begin their work.
Since then, the Naskov family has been making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children through the ngo they founded, Lighthouse of Hope MK. The oldest daughter, Nastassia, is living independently and working toward her own goals, while Aleks is pursuing a degree in Economics in a local university. The two younger boys are actively involved in the local chess club and kickboxing club in Bitola.
Jennifer continues to work directly with the children, providing training for the nurses and therapists and supporting her own family, while Zoran continues to run his business which helps support their volunteer work. Their commitment to the deinstitutionalization process in North Macedonia and their desire to provide hope for a brighter future for vulnerable children remains strong.
